A clean fuel system allows a vehicle’s injectors to work at maximum efficiency. Dirty injectors can reduce engine performance and fuel economy. They are also bad for the environment as dirty injectors block fuel flow and may produce higher hydrocarbon and carbon monoxide emissions.
Additives in good quality gasoline can help prevent sticky buildup in the injectors, combustion chambers and valves, but cheap gas doesn’t usually have the required amount of additives to make a difference. You can often tell injectors need cleaning if rough misfiring and rough idling are occurring. In some cases, cleaner may also be run through vehicle injectors with the engine running to help remove some sticky buildup.
